In September 2018 my wife and I went on a GolfAhoy Danube River Golf Cruise aboard an AmaWaterways riverboat.
We began our trip in Prague and spent a whole day touring this region. The welcome we received at the Prague Old Town Hilton where we were booked for three nights before the Danube cruise was warm and professional.
The next day, our GolfAhoy golf concierge picked us up at the Hilton and took us to a fantastic Prague golf course at the Albatross Golf Resort – a European Tour destination, host of the Czech Masters.
Among our GolfAhoy group were couples from America, Australia, New Zealand, and England.
Our transfers from the riverboat at each stopover to and from all of the golf courses along our Danube cruise in a decked out Mercedes tour van were seamless and extremely comfortable.
Our clubs were taken care of the entire trip and followed us by land in the Mercedes van overnight and were waiting for us at the next course.
Our 9th hole golf club lunches and drinks were included in our GolfAhoy package.
September is the perfect month for a European river golf cruise. The weather was in the low 70’s – rain fell on our last day in Budapest.
AmaWaterways boats are designed and built with a shallow draft. We made it down the Danube from Vilshofen to Budapest the whole way while other riverboats got stuck for lack of water in the river and their passengers had to be bussed the rest of the way and overnight in hotels.
In summary, everything we needed to have a great experience was thought of and arranged by GolfAhoy and our golf Concierge, Nicholas.
We played golf in five countries in ten days. All five European Tour courses were outstanding and equivalent to almost any Championship course in the United States.
We also had time to do the ship’s tours in the great European cities we visited.
My wife and I had often talked about taking a European river cruise. When the opportunity to combine the cruise with a golf vacation through GolfAhoy presented itself, we jumped on it.
GolfAhoy was incredible; they thought of everything and we look forward to our next vacation with them.
